The first few days following your surgery can greatly affect the quality of your healing and surgical outcome.
- Your surgeon’s instructions are paramount and should be strictly followed.
- Apply your prescribed eyedrops as directed.
- Wash you hands often. Maintain good body hygiene. Avoid touching your face, especially your eyes.
- Be sure to keep all of your post-surgical appointments.
- Generally, after a 24-hour recovery period, you should be able to resume normal activities, including going to work.
- Use common sense and be careful performing any activities that could affect your eyes. Wear protective eye gear where indicated. If you are in an area that has particles, flying objects, or dust, you must at least wear safety glasses with side protection. If you are working near chemicals, you must wear goggles.
Cause for concern:
- Your surgeon will have informed you of any expected side effects and about the length of time that these effects can be expected to last and possible severity.
- If at any point you think that you are feeling more pain than you expected, or if you develop fever, or show any sign of infection, contact your surgeon. If urgent, call 911 or go directly to your nearest emergency room. Ask emergency room personnel to contact your surgeon.
