The day before your scheduled surgery, a patient care staff member from East Valley Outpatient Surgery will contact you. You will be asked to review your health history, medications that you currently take, and about drug allergies or intolerance. Preoperative instructions will be reviewed with you. You may also be contacted by someone in the our business office to address financial matters such as your responsibility for co-payments and deductibles.
Please make yourself available for this contact. In the event that you are not available or need more information, please call us at 480-739-1658.
Below is a summation of simple rules to follow that will maximize your safety and help ensure that you have minimal worries on the day of surgery.
- Make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home after surgery. Your surgery will be rescheduled if you have not made this arrangement. Taxi, Uber, bus, and other forms of public transportation are allowed only for those patients who are accompanied by an appropriate escort.
- Your escort must be available to wait in our reception area during your surgery, and to inform the receptionist if he or she must leave for any reason.
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight prior to your surgery. This includes food, beverages, candy, gum, and breath mints. You may have small sips of water.
- Do not smoke or use any tobacco products after midnight prior to your surgery.
- Consume no alcohol (spirits, beer, or wine) at least 24 hours before and after your surgery.
- You may brush your teeth and rinse your mouth the day of surgery, provided nothing is swallowed.
- Prepare a list of your current medications and supplements. Include the dosage and what time of the day you take them. Bring this list with you to the surgery center.
- Ask your doctor regarding your current medications:
- If you are on any blood thinner medication (Coumadin, Plavix, Ticlid, Lovenox, etc.) you may need to stop it before surgery.
- If you are on heart, blood pressure, breathing, or seizure medication, ask for clear instructions on taking any of it the morning of surgery.
- If you take insulin, ask your doctor how to take it on the day of the surgery. You may be asked to bring your insulin with you to the surgery center.
If there is anything that worries you, feel free to contact us right away.
